Art Galleria Websites: Formatting images and galleries

Select how images and galleries will display on your website

Updated this week

Images are at the heart of your art business website, whether you’re showcasing a single piece or an artists entire portfolio.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the options for how you can display images and collections of images on your site.

Image formatting options for a single image

When you add an image to a grid space on your site, you can select how that image displays within the allocated space.

Contain

Shows the entire image within the space (that is, will not crop the image)

Cover

Fills the width and heigh of the space with the image, and will crop the image to do this.

Fill

Distorts image to fit dimensions of whatever container it’s in.

None

Shows the image in the original size

Scale Down

Shows the image according to the original resolution, no larger.

Image display options for galleries

When you add a gallery of images to your page, you have a number of options for how you display those images.

  • First, you can select the gallery layout, which defines how the images will be displayed together (masonry, squares, etc.)

  • Second, you select how the individual images within that layout fill the space provided (as described above in Image formatting options for a single image)

Gallery Layout options

You can create galleries based on specific Collections in Art Galleria.

Once you've added the Gallery dynamic section to your page, open the Filters area on the right side and enter the name of a Collection to display.

Make sure the Collection is synced to your website:

  1. Go to Art Galleria > Websites > Website Portfolio

  2. Click the more options icon (...) next to the portfolio for your website

  3. Check the Collections to sync

  4. Click Update Portfolio

Then, you can select the options for how the gallery will display:

Masonry

Images are arranged based on the available vertical space. It resembles a brick wall, hence the name "masonry."

This layout allows for different sizes of images, creating a staggered, flowing appearance.

Masonry Overlay

Similar to the masonry layout but with artwork information displayed over the images.

Squares

This is a grid layout where each item is constrained to a square space.

If you select Contain for the image fit field, the images will be square (see right).

Squares Overlay

Similar to the squares layout but artwork information displayed over the images.

Square Box

Images have a borders or padding around them creating a boxed effect. Each image fits within a fixed square box, maintaining equal spacing and alignment.

Letterbox

This layout maintains the original aspect ratio of images but adds horizontal or vertical padding to fit within a rectangular container. The entire image is visible without cropping.
